The "art" of blogging has taken the online world by storm. Short for "weblog", a blog is an online journal through which people can publish their thoughts. Although some people use a blog as a simple "brain-dump", detailing their most arcane and random thoughts, your blog can be somewhat useful as part of your online profile.
There are different approaches you can take with your blog. There are several different ways you can use your blog to let people know a little bit about you, aside from what's already in your online profile.
News - Use your blog to post news of events around the world, in your neighborhood, or just in your life. It gives people some insight into who you are by letting them know what interests you and what's going on in your life.
Soapbox - Use your blog to air our your opinions on various subjects. You can blog about anything from world politics to the opposite sex. Many times this will become like a debate forum, with people posting comments agreeing or disagreeing with your comments, and not only gives you an opportunity to share your opinions, but allows you to see what others think, and get an idea of who may be compatible with you.
Platform - If you enjoy writing, anything from short stories to poetry, you can use your blog as a platform to display some of your work, and get feedback on it. This type of blog is very entertaining for those of us who love to read, especially when it is well-written. It allows you to showcase your creative side, which is especially important if that is one the qualities you really want people to see in you.
Advice - Posting questions in a frequently-read blog will usually receive numerous and varied comments and responses. You may find the answers to your questions or problems, or you may find that the answer was within you all along.
These are some of the more common uses for blogs. Other uses include posting jokes and other random thoughts. Whatever you use your blog for, do it frequently, because it is a good way to let people know what you are about, and that you have something to say. So, say something interesting, write it well, and you actually find yourself getting more responses than ever before.
