It is widely known, that classification of hotels in Istanbul starts with three stars. Well, if you settle in a two-star hotel, nothing especially horrible will happen, of course. But it will mean that you have just found a place where to sleep. A hotel regarding the precise meaning of the word can not have less than two stars. And the vast majority of Istanbul hotels possess their three stars. So, what is so special about a three-star hotel in Istanbul?

First of all, "three stars" is not "too few". The difference between a three-star, and a five-star might only be in hall size and room interior, whereas the service level might stay the same. So, why should we overpay?

Secondly, three-star hotels can differ very much. One should understand that a three-star built 5 years ago is much more different from its 20-year-old counterpart. However, despite these differences between Istanbul hotels of the same level, there is an indispensable service pack guaranteed by each three-star hotel. Let us see what it includes.

Breakfast is free of charge. Usually, open board buffet is offered in the mornings. There can be a lot of meat, or little of it, but traditionally, Istanbul hotels serve a lot of vegetables, and fruits during breakfast.

Daily cleaning of the rooms. Usually, the towels are changed if requested (just leave a special card on them). The point here is not in greediness, but in the national program of economy of water. In the shower one will, usually, find hairdryer, 2 pieces of soap (replaced periodically), and bottles with shampoo. Toilet is merged with the bathroom, toilet paper is always present.

Room amenities in three-stars in Istanbul include TV, bedside-table, and dresser with hangers. Usually there also is a safe-box, but you should ask whether it is used for free or not, in advance. Of course, there is a mini-bar. Its contents depend on the class of the hotel. In three-stars, it usually involves two cups of beer, small bottle of wine, two bottles of water, fruit juice, chocolate bar, and a pack of nutlets. All these will be charged! The price is slightly higher than outdoor one.

Beware also that some TV channels, usually erotic ones, can also be for charge.

Every decent three-star in Istanbul has its own restaurant. The meals there are generally not exquisite, but quite nourishing. Even late at night one can order something simple, like roast beef with garnish. So, there should be no problem with what to eat in the evenings.

Remember that as everywhere else, in Istanbul a three-star hotel is aimed to serve the middle class. Service and comfort level, and the choice of options suit what middle class can afford and wish. Therefore, European tourists prefer staying in three-stars, for they know how to rest without spending too much.

A famous traveler and analyst, the author of periodical reviews about the hotels all over the world Andy Dorson thinks, that 3-star Istanbul hotels correspond their rating and class completely. Every tourist, who selected one of Three-star hotels in Istanbul, is going to become sure about the truth of this statement by receiving inexpensive and, at the same, time comfortable accommodation and he will never regret his choice.
